The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering giving more tickets to women candidates in the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections in Uttarakhand, senior party leader and Rajpur Road MLA Khajan Das said.
He stated that there are 11 municipal corporations and that the BJP might field more women candidates as mayoral candidates too. He said that the BJP’s focus on increasing women’s representation aligns with its broader strategy of empowering women in politics. The party acknowledges everyone’s contributions and will take further action once the election dates are announced, he added.
Das revealed that party members recently met chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to request timely conduct of ULB elections. “With the tenure of Panchayat representatives also ending this month, we have urged the CM to hold the Panchayat elections simultaneously in December,” he said.
When asked whether the government could manage both elections in December, he assured that all possible measures are being taken to ensure the polls are conducted on schedule. Commenting on the BJP’s preparedness, Das said, “The BJP and its workers are always ready, regardless of when the elections are held. The BJP does not require exclusive preparation.”
