BJP manages to retain all seats in Pauri district

Bharatiya Janata Party has managed to retain all six Assembly constituencies in Pauri district in this election. This is the second time when the BJP won all the seats in the district in the Assembly election. The BJP candidates including sitting MLAs and cabinet ministers Satpal Maharaj from Chaubattakhal, Dhan Singh Rawat from Srinagar, along with Dilip Singh Rawat from Lansdowne retained their seats while sitting MLA of Yamkeshwar, Ritu Bhushan Khanduri won from Kotdwar, Rajkumar Pori won from Pauri and Renu Bisht won from Yamkeshwar. Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal lost from Srinagar, former minister Surendra Singh Negi lost from Kotdwar and Congress state vice president Keshar Singh Negi lost from Chaubattakhal. Similarly, Congress candidate Anukriti Gusain lost from Lansdowne by more than 9,000 votes to the BJP candidate. Being the daughter in-law of former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat did not help the Congress candidate. In Pauri, the BJP candidate defeated Congress candidate Naval Kishore by 5,738 votes. This was Kishore’s second consecutive defeat in the Assembly elections. In Kotdwar, the BJP candidate defeated the Congress candidate 3,687 votes. In Yamkeshwar constituency the BJP candidate defeated her Congress rival Shailendra Rawat by a margin of 10,410 votes while in Chaubattakhal, Maharaj defeated Negi by 11,430 votes. BJP’s Dhan Singh Rawat defeated the PCC president Ganesh Godiyal by 587 votes in Srinagar constituency. The votes of women and the Modi factor are believed to be major factors behind the victory of BJP candidates in the district.
