BJP MLA from Lansdowne likely to skip budget session in protest

BJP leader and Lansdowne MLA Dileep Singh Rawat is likely to miss the budget session of Vidhan Sabha if the State government fails to address the issue of stringent forest regulations that he claims are hindering development in his constituency.

Rawat has consistently voiced concerns about stalled projects in his assembly segment, where 67 per cent of the area is forest-covered. He attributes these delays to rigid forest regulations that require the transfer of non-forest land which should be twice the size of the forest land used to the Forest department for any development initiative, including road construction.

He had also asked the government in November last year to hold a special assembly session to comprehensively address these challenges, stating that the current process is excessively bureaucratic and hampers essential development work. He had also appealed for a thorough review of existing rules, advocating amendments tailored to Uttarakhand’s unique needs.

Rawat informed The Pioneer that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assured him that a four-hour discussion will be held during the budget session in Dehradun on the issue. However, he warned that if this commitment is not confirmed in the BJP legislature party meeting ahead of the budget session, he will refrain from attending the session.
