The Bharatiya Janata Party has extended a final chance to its rebel workers to only support official candidates of the party in the urban local bodies elections. The BJP has prioritised loyalty, dedication and active involvement in the organisation while distributing tickets for the urban local bodies elections in Uttarakhand, the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said. He stated that BJP is a principled party rooted in its ideology, where committed and active workers form the backbone of the organisation. This ethos was reflected in the ticket distribution process, where preference was given to individuals who have served the party with dedication and perseverance.

Acknowledging the abundance of qualified candidates, Bhatt stated that this posed a significant challenge during the ticket allocation process. However, he lauded the discipline of party members, many of whom willingly withdrew their nominations to support the official candidates, as per him. He said that those who had filed nominations against official candidates but have yet to withdraw will be given one final opportunity to align themselves with the party’s decisions. He stressed that disciplinary action will be a last resort, aimed only at those who defy the party’s directives after this final chance. Bhatt also expressed delight over the unopposed election of BJP candidates in three locations, attributing the success to the government’s achievements and the organisation’s robust efforts.

The BJP’s State general secretary Aditya Kothari also revealed that state-level directives had been issued to engage with workers who had not withdrawn their nominations, persuading them to support the official candidates. Several individuals, including the son of Tharali MLA Bhopal Ram Tamta and former MLA Rajkumar Thukral, who had filed their nominations from Karnprayag and Rudrapur respectively, have withdrawn their nominations. Thukral also ensured the withdrawal of his brother’s candidacy. Kothari said that those who fail to comply with party directives even after this grace period will face disciplinary action.
