BJP poll manifesto full of hollow promises, says leader of opposition

The Congress has said that the election manifesto of the Bharatiya Janata Party is full of hollow promises. The leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya said that the BJP manifesto mentions jobs only twice at a time when unemployment is a major issue facing the nation.

Reacting to the BJP’s election manifesto Arya stated, “A Press conference lasting 1 hour 40 minutes was held during the release of the BJP poll manifesto but not a single question was taken from journalists. The BJP formed its manifesto committee on March 30, 2024 and released the manifesto. On the other hand, the Congress had formed its manifesto committee in December 2023. This committee listened to the voices of all sections of society in the nation and prepared its Nyay Patra. The BJP manifesto mentions employment only twice at a time when unemployment is the biggest problem being faced in the country.  On the other hand, the Congress is promising to provide 30 lakh government jobs.”

The leader of opposition further questioned what happened to the major promises made by the BJP in its election manifestos of 2014-19. Did the BJP provide two crore jobs annually to the youths and manage to double the income of farmers as promised? He asked why crimes against the scheduled caste and scheduled tribes increased by 46 per cent and 48 per cent respectively. The Congress leader further asked what had happened to implementing women’s reservation and preventing crimes against women. What about the 100 Smart Cities to be developed and the cleaning of the Ganga river by 2020, he asked. “They had promised a home for every family by 2022 and 24×7 electricity supply for all by the same year. They had also claimed that they would make India a $ five trillion economy by 2022 and provide skill training to 40 crore youths by 2022. The first bullet train is still awaited,” he said.

Arya further pointed out that there is no mention of legal provision for MSP in the BJP’s manifesto while the Congress is going to provide a legal guarantee of MSP to the farmers. The BJP talks of making women millionaires but those same women have to pay GST on flour-curd. The Congress on the other hand is guaranteeing Rs one lakh annually for poor women and 50 per cent reservation for women in government jobs.
