The Bharatiya Janata Party has lodged a police complaint regarding disinformation being spread on social media using a fake Tweet attributed to the BJP state president Madan Kaushik. The party’s state social media in-charge Shekhar Verma submitted a written complaint to the Dehradun senior superintendent of police naming a person who had allegedly spread an edited screenshot of Kaushik’s Tweet on Facebook. Stating that this is an attempt to taint the image of the party of its state president, the party office bearer has sought strict action in the case.

It is pertinent to mention that the said disinformation spread through a fake Tweet projects Kaushik as stating that the BJP is losing the Assembly elections in Uttarakhand. Kaushik has already clarified that the Tweet is fake.

The BJP has claimed that Congress leaders have anticipated their defeat in the Assembly elections and are spreading the fake Tweet of the BJP state president to vent out their own frustration. The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Chauhan said that considering the statements of Congress leaders that their enhanced mood at the thought of forming the next government in Uttarakhand is not going to change till the election results are declared.  “The elections are over but the Congress is still in election mode which is why it is conspiring to spread the wrong message about the BJP. The Congress is clearly seeing its defeat in the verdict given by the voters on February 14. This is why its leaders want to live the dream of forming the new government in the few days remaining till the election result is announced,” said Chauhan. He further alleged that the fake Tweet attributed to the BJP state president is a conspiracy of Congress leaders.
