BJP seeks Rahul Gandhi’s resignation from LoP’s post

The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly condemned what it called a blatant attack on democracy led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Parliament. BJP State president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt demanded Rahul Gandhi’s resignation from the post of Leader of the Opposition and an apology from Congress over the incident.
Bhatt accused the Congress and the opposition of consistently spreading disinformation about the Constitution and reservation policies. He alleged that recent claims made by Congress, including edited videos accusing the BJP of insulting Bhim Rao Ambedkar, were deliberate attempts to mislead the public. “For years, Congress has tried to tarnish the legacy of Ambedkar. They ignored his contributions, denied him recognition like the Bharat Ratna during his lifetime and failed to preserve historical sites associated with him. Now, they are spreading lies in his name to mask their own failures,” he said.
The BJP leader said that debates held in Parliament on Constitution Day exposed Congress’ historical neglect of Ambedkar’s ideology. Bhatt praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home minister Amit Shah for setting the record straight during the discussions. He claimed that Congress, frustrated by its diminishing credibility, resorted to creating false narratives and engaging in unruly behaviour in Parliament. Criticising Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, Bhatt alleged that BJP MPs, including a Scheduled Tribe woman MP from Nagaland, faced physical and verbal abuse during the incident. He termed the actions “shameful and unbecoming of elected representatives”.
Bhatt reiterated the BJP’s demand for Gandhi’s resignation on moral grounds and a public apology from Congress. “Such behaviour tarnishes the dignity of Parliament and undermines democratic values. Gandhi must take responsibility and step down,” he added.
