BJP set to establish local body government, says Dhami after senior Congress leaders join party

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is set to form the government at the local body level. He said this at a programme held at the party’s State office here on Saturday where senior Congress leaders joined the party. The now former Congress State vice president Mathura Dutt Joshi, Bittu Karnatak and former district Panchayat head Jagat Singh Khati along with their supporters joined the Congress on the occasion. The former senior Congress leaders who shifted claimed that the public believes in the developmental agenda of the BJP and this is why members of other parties are also joining the BJP. There is no respect for capable, decent and dedicated workers in the Congress, which is unfortunate, they added.

Dhami and the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt welcomed the Congress leaders into the party. Speaking on the occasion, Dhami said that all dedicated and capable political workers are welcomed to the world’s biggest political party. He said that their entry will surely benefit the BJP in the urban local body elections. Questioning the maturity of the Congress leadership, he said that it had ignored capable and decent members. “The people of Uttarakhand have appreciated our developmental agenda and elected us again in the 2022 Assembly election, in addition to electing the BJP in the five Lok Sabha constituencies and ensuring our victory in the Kedarnath Assembly bypoll. Similarly, we will register a bumper victory in the local body polls,” Dhami said.

Bhatt welcomed the former Congress leaders into the BJP, adding that he will ensure their honour in the party. “All of you have joined the BJP to participate in the State’s developmental journey. If this trend of Congress leaders joining the BJP continues, it won’t be long before the Congress will not be in a position to remain the main opposition party. The factionalism and denigration of capable leaders in the Congress is concerning because such an attitude is unfortunate for democracy and the society,” he said.

Joshi said that he had worked devotedly for the Congress but this is not valued anymore. “I have joined the BJP and assure that I will serve this party dedicatedly. I am impressed by the way India and Uttarakhand are progressing under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Dhami,” he said.
