The media-in- charge of Uttarakhand Bharatiya Janata Party, Manveer Singh Chauhan has said that instead of assisting the Congress party, it is putting hurdles in the Ankita Bhandari murder case investigation.
In response to Congress president Ganesh Godiyal’s press conference held in New Delhi on Wednesday, the BJP leader said that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Ankita murder case. Chauhan said that Congress never intended for a CBI investigation and the CM’s announcement regarding it came as a shock to the party. He said that the State government’s submission to the central agency for investigation is part of the legal process and the timeline for the CBI’s consent for the investigation is also a procedural matter. However, he criticised Congress for making unnecessary blames and counter-allegations in the sensitive issue.
He said that legal experts had examined the facts that emerged during the arguments and debates, but Congress is now trying to initiate a new debate on these issues. When the accused requested a Narco test or similar procedures, court experts were closely monitoring every detail to ensure that the accused did not divert the investigation to evade responsibility. He stated that the court had rejected the demand for a CBI investigation and was satisfied with the ongoing SIT investigation. Although Congress raised numerous questions about the SIT investigation while it was in progress, the court’s verdict is now known to all.
Chauhan further stated that Congress recently attempted to create confusion regarding a CBI investigation into a recruitment scam, but that investigation is still ongoing.
Additionally, Chauhan said that an SIT investigation is being conducted into the Kashipur farmer’s suicide case in Udham Singh Nagar district. Based on the complaints received, action has already been taken against the accused. He criticised the Congress party for launching a campaign against the police in that district, which he claims has eroded its credibility. Chauhan alleged that the son of an MLA orchestrated an attack on himself in an attempt to defame the government and the police and although the MLA apologised to the public, Congress has maintained a silence on the issue.
