The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused Congress MLAs of engaging in theatrics during the ongoing Vidhan Sabha session instead of addressing public concerns. The BJP’s state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan stated that while Congress is demanding an extension of the Vidhan Sabha session, it is also resorting to various tactics for publicity. He alleged that instead of raising public interest issues in the Vidhan Sabha, Congress members are focusing on the matter of Gairsain.
Chauhan claimed that Congress MLAs are not concerned about the problems of people in their constituencies and have come to the Vidhan Sabha without proper preparation. He said that the Vidhan Sabha speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan had already clarified before declaring Dehradun as the session venue that, unlike Dehradun, the Gairsain Vidhan Sabha building has not been fully digitised yet. He claimed that the sound system in Gairsain creates an echo and work is still in its final stages to make the facility properly equipped like in Dehradun. He accused Congress of unnecessarily trying to turn it into an issue. He further stated that Congress MLAs have themselves written to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the past requesting that the winter session be held in Dehradun instead of Gairsain. He said that BJP has made Gairsain the summer capital with the aim of developing the mountainous region and its intentions are clear in this regard. Chauhan suggested that the Congress MLAs should focus on discussing public issues like roads, healthcare and education in their constituencies.
It will be recalled that so far the Congress members have raised issues outside the house with Bhuwan Kapdi arriving in ‘handcuffs’ to elicit focus on how Indians who had illegally immigrated to the USA were deported. On Friday, Kapdi and some other Congress members covered themselves in warm blankets while pretending to shiver in the cold, taunting the government for not holding the Assembly session in Gairsain.
