The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly criticised Congress MP Imran Masood for allegedly delivering a provocative speech in Roorkee, urging people to vote against the BJP government’s actions on illegal religious encroachments. The BJP leaders have accused Masood of attempting to incite communal tension in Uttarakhand. The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan expressed concern over Masood’s remarks, describing them as unfortunate and divisive. He claimed that in the video, Masood reportedly called on the Muslim community to oppose the government’s actions, including the removal of illegal structures such as mosques and shrines, which the State government has identified as encroachments. Chauhan alleged that Masood’s speech sought to provoke the community and disrupt harmony in the region.
According to him, Masood’s appeal to safeguard the Waqf board and vote in favour of Congress in local body elections was aimed at polarising minority voters. He further accused Masood of engaging in similar tactics in Haldwani, attempting to consolidate Muslim votes by spreading fear and misinformation. Chauhan also criticised local Congress leaders for their silence, stating that their inaction indicates a reliance on a specific vote bank. He also took aim at Congress’ broader strategies, alleging that their leaders resort to communal politics whenever the BJP takes decisive actions against illegal encroachments and demographic changes.
Chauhan referenced earlier statements by Congress leaders, including inflammatory remarks, as evidence of their attempts to destabilise harmony for political gains. Reiterating the BJP’s commitment, he assured that the BJP-led government would not back down from its campaign against what it calls love Jihad and land Jihad. He emphasised that the State government will continue to act against those attempting to alter the demographic structure of the Uttarakhand. He averred that with the support of the people, the BJP will preserve the State’s cultural and religious identity.
