Having lost the bypoll in both Badrinath and Manglaur Assembly constituencies, the Bharatiya Janata Party will evaluate the election and the factors which led to its defeat. Talking to the media after the declaration of the results, the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt thanked the voters in both the constituencies for their support while adding that the BJP will trounce the Congress in the Kedarnath Assembly bypoll and the local body elections.
Stating that the BJP respects the verdict of the people, Bhatt told journalists here on Saturday that the party will review the election. He stressed that the State government will fulfill the promises made to the public during the campaigning for bypolls in Badrinath and Manglaur constituencies. Accusing the Congress of propaganda, he said that the Badrinath constituency was with the Congress earlier too. The people will give a befitting reply to the Congress in the Kedarnath Assembly bypoll, Panchayat and local body elections. “The bypoll results were not favourable for us but the BJP workers toiled with dedication. We thank the people of Manglaur heartily as in the past the situation used to be dire for our candidates but the margin of our candidate’s defeat this time was only a few hundred votes. As far as the Badrinath constituency is concerned, the Congress managed to retain its seat for which we congratulate them. However, the Congress should not get carried away by enthusiasm because the BJP has retained its position as the Congress retained its Badrinath seat and won Manglaur from the Bahujan Samaj Party. Our candidate in Badrinath, Rajendra Bhandari had joined the BJP for the development of the region and we assure the people that we will fulfill all the promises we made to the public. Our Manglaur candidate Kartar Singh Bhadana was accused of being an outsider but the people still supported him considerably. We will reciprocate by stepping up the pace of development in the area,” Bhatt said.
He further said that the party will analyse the bypolls and work to fill the gaps which it finds in its working. Bhatt further opined that the Congress alone is not responsible for its victories as the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, communists and other parties had supported it. Despite this, the Congress which used to win Manglaur by a large margin could manage to win the seat by a margin of only 422 votes, he added.
