The Bharatiya Janata Party State president Mahendra Bhatt said that the party will review its performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. He said that the low voter turnout in the State had caused a drop in victory margin of the party’s candidates but still the party had performed well in the parliamentary polls in Uttarakhand. Addressing the media at the party’s State office on Thursday, he said that the party was ahead in all the 14 Vidhan Sabha constituencies each in the Garhwal and Almora Lok Sabha constituencies this time. The party fell behind in only one Vidhan Sabha constituency in the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency. The BJP topped 11 Vidhan Sabha constituencies in the Tehri Lok Sabha constituency while in the Haridwar constituency, the party improved upon its performance in the last Vidhan Sabha election by leading in eight out of the 14 Vidhan Sabha constituencies in this parliamentary segment. Despite the low voter turnout in the State in this Lok Sabha election the victory margin of the party candidates was almost similar to the 2019 parliamentary elections, he said. The BJP secured a total of 11,68,697 votes more than the opposition in this parliamentary election whereas during the previous parliamentary election the party had secured 12,69,770 votes more than the opposition, Bhatt added.
“In two parliamentary constituencies, we won by an almost same margin as compared to the previous election. The margin in Tehri constituency was 3,00,586 votes last time while this time it was 2,72,493 votes. In the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency, the margin last time was 3,39,996 votes while this time it was 3,34,548 votes. In the Almora constituency, Ajay Tamta had won by a margin of 2,32,936 votes last time while the margin was 2,44,097 this time. Our victory margin was slightly less only in the Garhwal and Haridwar parliamentary constituencies this time even though it was more than 1.5 lakh in both the segments despite our candidates being new to parliamentary elections in both these segments. The public has been supporting us consistently on the basis of the works done by the MPs and the government. Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah registered a victory in Tehri for the fourth consecutive time. In Amora constituency, Ajay Tamta registered a win for the third consecutive time while Ajay Bhatt won for the second consecutive time in the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency,” Bhatt said.
The BJP State president further said that the mandate given by the public in this parliamentary election is for developing a Viksit Bharat and a model Uttarakhand. He said that the election results show that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP have succeeded in winning the hearts of the people. This is the first time since 1962 when a coalition government has been re-elected for the third consecutive term to office. The people have also thwarted the conspiracies of those relying on casteism, appeasement and hollow announcements to grab power. The mandate of the public has defeated corruption, familism and anti-national powers, he said.
