BJP to send six names of probable candidates for Salt bypoll
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit will send a list of six names to the party’s central parliamentary board which will finalise the name of the BJP candidate for the Salt assembly by-election to be held on April 17. The name of chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat is not in this list. The BJP state president Madan Kaushik said this after the meeting of the party’s core group held in the BJP state office here on Saturday evening.
Talking to media persons, Kaushik said that the three member team which had conducted a survey in Salt had listed six names of potential candidates. The BJP State unit will send this list to the party’s central parliamentary board probably on Sunday morning. The board will finalise the name of the candidate which will be announced probably on Sunday evening or Monday, he said. Stating that the chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat’s name is not in this list, he said that a family member of the late Salt MLA, Surendra Singh Jeena and other contenders are named in the list. Kaushik further said that the works done by Jeena in the constituency had strengthened the trust of the public in the party which will definitely work in favour of the BJP in the assembly by-polls.
According to sources, Mahesh Jeena, the elder brother of the late MLA is among those named in the list. It will be recalled that the by-election in Salt assembly constituency has been necessitated by the demise of sitting MLA Surendra Singh Jeena in November last year.
Along with Kaushik, chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat, Union Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, party’s state co-in-charge Rekha Verma, cabinet minister Banshidhar Bhagat, State minister Dhan Singh Rawat, MPs Ajay Bhatt, Ajay Tamta, Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah and Naresh Bansal among others were also present in the core group meeting.
