A delegation of Congress leaders led by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, met Additional Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO), V K Jogedande at his office on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum complaining about the misuse of money and muscle power and government machinery by the ruling party in the Badrinath and Manglaur Assembly by elections.

The PCC president Karan Mahara said that the state government is putting pressure on the ration shop owners and the Anganwadi workers to campaign in favour of the BJP candidates.  He said that it seems that the BJP state government wants to win the assembly by-election by misusing money, power, liquor and government machinery.  Mahara added that the BJP is also openly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) .

The Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Mathuradutt Joshi said that the BJP is blatantly misusing the government machinery in the campaign. BJP is also distributing money and liquor in both the constituencies through outsiders to influence the voters. Joshi claimed that the vehicles of BJP leaders are not being checked by any officer in both the assembly constituencies and there is no restriction on the liquor and other material being distributed by the BJP through outsiders in the assembly constituencies.   He added that in many parts of Manglaur assembly constituency, BJP workers and leaders coming from outside are roaming in vehicles having registration numbers of states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh and trying to influence voters by unfair means.

The Congress delegation asked the ACEO that in order to ensure fair and transparent elections, the allegations of the party should be investigated and action should be taken against the leaders and candidates BJP.

The delegation included Congress MLAs Furkan Ahmed, Mamta Rakesh, Ravi Bahadur, Virendra Jati, Anupama Rawat and others.
