The Bharatiya Janata Party State president Mahendra Bhatt has said that the BJP will welcome the opposition MLAs who are impressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for development and want to take the development policy forward. The BJP will field such MLAs in the election, he said while interacting with media persons at his official residence here on Saturday.
Targetting the Congress, the BJP State president said that the BJP is sure to win in the coming Lok Sabha elections. This is the reason why the sensible Congress leaders are reluctant to enter into the electoral contest. Referring to the notice sent by the Enforcement Directorate to former minister and Congress leader Harak Singh Rawat and his daughter in-law, Bhatt said that this is part of the usual procedure. The ED has followed this procedure irrespective of which party is in power at the Centre, he said, while adding that Rawat should cooperate in the investigation.
Bhatt said that the nation and Uttarakhand are achieving unprecedented development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. This is the reason why there is an overwhelming support for the BJP. It is due to this that whoever stands against Modi’s development policy will be rejected by the public. He further said that the public representatives of the opposition are also facing strong pressure from the public to contribute in efforts aimed at making Uttarakhand a model State. Talk of opposition MLAs considering joining the BJP are also a result of this pressure from the public. Bhatt clarified that any Congress or opposition MLA who wants to join the BJP to further strengthen the policy of development will be welcomed into the party. He assured that the BJP will field them in the Vidhan Sabha elections.
Reacting to factionalism in the Congress, he said that leaders and workers of the Congress which lacks ideology and issues, lack the courage to face the public. “The Congress indulges in power politics so it cannot accept defeat under any circumstances. After a decade of facing defeats in parliamentary, Vidhan Sabha, local body and Panchayat elections, it doesn’t seem sensible now for its senior leaders to enter the electoral contest only to suffer defeat. The Congress party workers are not participating even in the party’s agitations because like the general public, they too are becoming part of the developmental journey of the nation and the State. This is the reason why the general public and party workers are missing from agitations of the Congress. The senior party leaders vent the resulting frustration on the people of Uttarakhand,” Bhatt said.
