Blocked roads continue to cause inconvenience in State

Though there has been some respite from widespread heavy rains in the State, locals and visitors continue to face inconvenience due to blocked roads especially in the rural and mountainous regions of the State. Some of the blocked roads have been reopened by the authorities while alternative routes are being used in other cases. According to the information from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), at least 155 roads were reported to be blocked in various parts of the State on Sunday.
As per the evening status report issued by the SEOC, in the Uttarkashi district, the Rishikesh-Yamunotri national highway is blocked by debris between Dharasu and Kalyani. The Border Roads Organisation is working to reopen this road.One national highway and 22 rural roads are blocked in the district. One State highway, one main district road and 10 rural rads are blocked in the Tehri district while in the Haridwar district two rural motor roads were reported to be blocked. In Chamoli district, the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway and other major national highways were open along with the Joshimath-Malari border road. However, three State highways, one other district road and 23 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district.
The Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway in Rudraprayag district was open for traffic though 17 rural motor roads were blocked in the district. Similarly, seven rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Dehradun district while three State highways, one main district road, one other district road and 27 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Pauri district. Whereas two rural motor roads were reported blocked in Almora district, one State highway (partial) and nine rural roads were reported to be blocked in Nainital district.
While all roads were reported to be open in Udham Singh Nagar district, one main district road and eight rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Bageshwar district. Two rural motor roads were blocked in Champawat district while one border road and 10 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Pithoragarh district. Efforts are underway to reopen the blocked roads.
