The long wait for the blood bank at Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital is expected to end soon with the commencement of its operations. Pertinently, the hospital administration had prepared and submitted a proposal for the blood bank on the directive of the district magistrate, which was later approved. Following approval, construction work began.
However, the inordinate delay in completion of construction has raised concern among patients and visitors. Many visitors have been questioning when the blood bank will finally become functional.
Importantly, the construction agency had recently handed over the blood bank building. Despite the handover, questions remain over when the facility will start functioning.
Informing about the current status, principal medical superintendent of the District Hospital Dr Yatendra Singh said that a proposal for a budget for purchase of equipment for the blood bank was recently sent to the director general of Health.
“The DG Health has recently approved the budget and the tender of the company for the equipment for the blood bank has also been released. It is expected that the blood bank at the District Hospital will become operational soon,” he said.
Officials added that once operational, the blood bank will address several critical issues. It will ensure timely availability of blood during major surgeries, emergency situations and childbirth, reducing dependence on other hospitals. At present, patients requiring blood have to visit other concerned places, causing delays in treatment. The new facility is expected to provide major relief to patients who visit the district hospital daily.
