The president of Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh (UBS) Bobby Panwar has termed all the allegations levelled against him by Bageshwar police as baseless. He has also accused the police of harassing him. Panwar was arrested by the police on Friday along with 10 of his accomplices in Bageshwar on charges of violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) and section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) ahead of the Bageshwar Assembly by-elections for which voting is scheduled to be held on September 5.
He claimed that the police allegedly got a call from somebody that forced them to arrest him and his accomplices from near the Bagnath temple but they do not have any evidence to prove that he violated any law. He said, “The police should investigate who were the people raising slogans at the time. The videos reveal that they were the people belonging to Bajrang Dal in Bageshwar. It was a conspiracy to send us behind bars. The police obviously did not listen to us and arrested us. We were presented in the court where we got a chance to present our side. The court understood the matter and granted the bail.”
He further alleged, “The police have harassed us unnecessarily. They have no evidence to prove their charges against me. If they prove all the allegations, I will happily serve my punishment.” Panwar said that his protest against the injustice to unemployed youths has been going on in Dehradun for 180 days and he is consistently holding talks with youths across the State regarding the same. He said that he had also gone to Bageshwar with the same purpose.
However, he added, the way the administration forcibly stopped him clearly shows that the government wants to suppress those who raise their voice for the unemployed youths but they will continue the protest against injustice.
