Bodies of drowned duo recovered from Alaknanda

The authorities have found the bodies of two college students who drowned in the Alaknanda river near Srikot of Pauri Garhwal on Holi. The officials informed that two young men, aged around 19 years old, were students of Garhwal University who belonged to Rajasthan but were living in a hostel in the area. Both students, along with their other friends, went to take a bath in the Alaknanda river on the day of Holi where they allegedly slipped and fell into the river as per the information provided by their friends, said the officials. The team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) started the search operation for the bodies on Friday as soon as the authorities received the information but it could find the body of only one student, Ankit Chaudhary by noon. The team continued its search operation and finally, the divers recovered the second body of the deceased Hariom on Saturday morning from about 30 metres deep into the river. The authorities have stated that both men were swept away in the river due to the sudden rise in the water level of the river on Holi. The authorities said that they have informed the families of the victims and the bodies will be handed over to them soon.
