Bodies of two more victims of Gaurikund landslide recovered, 16 still missing

146 roads remain blocked in various parts of State

Search teams recovered two more bodies of the victims of the landslide which had occurred at Gaurikund on August 4. The two bodies were recovered from under the debris near the site of the landslide. The authorities have so far recovered seven bodies while 16 persons still remain missing. Meanwhile, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), at least 146 roads were reported to be blocked in various parts of the State on Saturday evening. As per the SEOC data, in Rudraprayag district the Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway 108 and the Gaurikund-Kedarnath bridle path are open for movement though 14 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district. In the Pauri district, the Kotdwar-Dugadda national highway 119 is blocked by debris at two sites while four State highways, one main district road, one other district road and 24 rural motor roads are also blocked in the district. Similarly, one State highway, one main district road and 15 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Dehradun district. In Uttarkashi district, the national highways to Gangotri and Yamunotri were open for traffic while two main district roads and seven rural motor roads were reported to be blocked. In Tehri district, the Rishikesh-Chamba national highway 94 was blocked by landslide and debris near Kunjanpuri while one national highway, two State highways, one main district road and 15 rural motor roads were also blocked in the district. One State highway and 18 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Nainital district. The Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway 58 was open for traffic in Chamoli district though two other district roads and 22 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district. One main district road and four rural motor roads were blocked in Bageshwar district, four rural motor roads were blocked in Champawat district and one border road and one rural road were reported to be blocked in Pithoragarh district.
