The body of a young man was found along the Rispana river near Vijaynagar bridge in Dehradun on Saturday. The police reached the site after receiving information from the control room. According to details collected by the police, the body belongs to a youth who was reportedly addicted to drugs and may have died due to the effect of drugs.

The deceased was identified as Ashish alias Archi, a 25-year-old resident of Chawla Chowk in the Rispana area. Police said he was addicted to drugs and had been living away from his family due to his habit. According to the police, the deceased was habituated to substance abuse and due to this, his family had asked him to leave the house. He was living alone in a rented accommodation while working as a labourer to meet his expenses. His family had reportedly not heard from him for the last 20 days. The deceased had also been to a de-addiction centre two to three times in the past.

During the initial investigation, the police said the body appeared to be two to three days old. No visible injury marks were found on the body. The body was sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination. A field unit team was also called, and the scene was examined with photography and videography. Police suspect that he may have gone to the riverside and died due to an overdose. However, they said all possible angles are being investigated to find out the exact cause of death.

Notably, the body of a woman was also found on March 15 near Chunabhatta. She was identified as Shivani Thapa (29), who was also addicted to drugs and reportedly died under the influence of drugs. She had returned home from a rehabilitation centre about 15 days earlier and had been admitted to such centres several times in the past. However, according to her family, she started taking drugs again after returning home.
