Dept forms three teams to capture tiger, measures taken to check pedestrian & two-wheeler traffic at night
The body of a man killed by a tiger near the Garjiya-Mohan motor road in Ramnagar forest division on Saturday late evening was recovered on Sunday after joint search conducted by the police and Forest department in the jungle. Three teams along with veterinarians have also started a rescue operation in the area frequented by the tiger in an attempt to capture the big cat. Further, two teams have been formed to monitor the area using drones. With the help of the local administration and police, attempts are also being made to check the pedestrian and two-wheeler traffic on the route after sunset.The Corbett tiger reserve director Dhiraj Pandey said that patrolling has been stepped up in the area while local residents have been appealed to close the hotels and shops on the the Garjiya-Dhangarhi-Mohan motor road early at night. Instructions have also been issued to ensure a check on pedestrian and two-wheeler traffic on the route at night to prevent any further conflict situation with the tiger.
It is pertinent to mention here that three youth were attacked by a tiger on Saturday evening between the Mohan and Dhangarhi area adjoining Corbett. While two of them were able to escape, the tiger dragged the third youth into the jungle. Nafis was reportedly on a recreational outing with two of his friends in the Mohan area. The trio was reportedly consuming alcohol when the tiger attacked. Nafis was dragged into the woods by the big cat. The Forest department and police personnel reached the site on being informed and on searching the area at night they were able to find the mobile phone and trousers of the victim. His bloodied body was recovered on Sunday morning. According to the victim’s brother, the sound of a tiger roaring nearby was heard when the body was recovered.
