Noted author Ruskin Bond has stressed on the need for ensuring the wellbeing of elephants. He celebrated World Elephant Day on Friday at his cottage while reading the book “Jumbos on the Edge: The Future of Elephant Conservation in India” by Sanjeev Kumar Chadha, a forest officer from Odisha. The book has been published by Natraj Publishers, Dehradun.
Finding the book an informative read, he endorsed the book and said, “Our beautiful jumbos need space and they are not getting enough of it. This book deals with the problems of these important citizens. Jumbos have been here longer than the rest of us,” said the celebrated author.
The book presents a road map for the future of elephant conservation in India and suggests ways to deal with elephant-human conflicts which are on the increase in recent times owing to loss of habitat for the lord of the jungle. World Elephant Day is celebrated every year on August 12 with an aim to spread awareness on the risk of extinction faced by these much loved wild denizens.
