Victim was consuming alcohol with friends at night

A 16-year-old boy was shot by his friend in Haldwani during an argument when they were consuming alcohol on Saturday night. The victim’s condition is critical and he is currently getting treatment. The police have started a search operation after identifying the accused, the officials said. According to them, some teenage boys and young men had reportedly gathered on the terrace of a house in the Transport Nagar area of Haldwani and were drinking alcohol on Saturday night. A dispute broke out between two friends and the matter escalated to the level that one friend shot the other in the chest with a pistol and ran away. The others soon took the victim to the Sushila Tiwari hospital where doctors referred him to a hospital in Bareilly for further treatment.
The officials said that the victim has been identified as Vedant (16) who belongs to Nepal but was currently living in Dehradun. His friend lived in the Anandpur village of Haldwani’s Transport Nagar area. He had come to his friend’s house about two weeks ago. He along with some other friends were drinking alcohol on Saturday when the incident occured.
The officials said that according to his friends, the one who shot him immediately ran away from the spot after shooting Vedant and they brought him to the hospital for treatment. The bullet had hit the boy on the right side of the chest. The police have identified the accused and are continuously raiding all possible areas to nab him.
The police are yet to ascertain the proper age of the accused and believe he can be in his late teens to early twenties. It is a matter of concern that he was in possession of an illegal weapon. The police will nab him soon, they added.
