All the branches of the State Bank of India (SBI) in all the districts of the State will remain open on Saturday (December 28) and Sunday (December 29). The decision to keep the SBI banks open was taken by the State Election Commission (SCE) to facilitate the ongoing process of elections of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) in the State.
The SEC has directed all the candidates of the ULB election to open a separate bank account one day before the filing of nomination papers. This bank account will cater to all the expenses made by the candidate in the campaign and will be used to deposit the amount of security deposit in form of a challan.
In a letter directed to all the district magistrates, the secretary SEC, Rahul Kumar Goyal said on Friday that since the process of filing of nomination papers has started on December 27 and it will continue till December 30, the process can get disrupted due to holidays in the banks on December 28 and 29. He said that the DMs should issue orders for opening of all branches of SBI on the aforementioned dates in the State.
