Bridge connecting Joshimath-Malari highway at Raini to be ready soon
The work of rebuilding the bridge washed away in the disaster of Rishiganga near Raini village on Joshimath-Malari highway is in full swing. The work for construction of Bailey bridge being done by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has reached its final stage.
BRO officials claim that the bridge work will be completed by March 5 much before the planned date of March 20. In Joshimath, the 200 feet Bailey bridge connecting to the strategically important China border on the Rishiganga river near Raini village in the Niti valley is now being built at a new spot instead of where it was before being washed away in the February 7 flood. The permanent bridge was washed away in the disaster and it was difficult to build the bridge at the old spot.
The bridge is about 30 metres away from the old site. It will be connected to the main highway. The road cutting has been completed. BRO has relentlessly worked from day one for not only restoration of connectivity but also towards relief and rescue operations at Raini power house. The chief engineer of BRO Shivalik Project, Ashu Singh Rathore who is camping at the site said that the construction work is likely to be completed by March 5.
