BRO proposes mega construction project of Rs 13,707 crore for U’khand

The organisation plans to construct 15 roads, five heliports, two airstrips & two tunnels in border areas of the state

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has proposed a mega construction package worth Rs 13,707 crore for the border areas of Uttarakhand. On Tuesday the officers of the organization gave a presentation of the proposed projects under the package to the governor of Uttarakhand Lieutenant General (retd) Gurmit Singh.

In the presentation it was informed that the BRO has planned projects to construct 14 new roads at a cost of Rs 9,250 crore, five heliports costing Rs 77.50 crore, extension of Gauchar and Naini Saini air strips with a budget of Rs 12 crore and construction of two tunnels at an estimated cost of Rs 4,260 crore in Uttarakhand. Appreciating the package of BRO, the governor said that he will interact with the union and state governments for the project. He directed his secretary Ranjit Sinha to send letters to the chief minister, minister concerned and chief secretary of Uttarakhand informing about the proposed projects of BRO. The governor also directed the departmental secretaries concerned to send their suggestions to the Raj Bhawan within stipulated time on the proposed plan of the BRO. He said that interaction with the union ministers would be held on the issue and requests would be made to release funds for these projects. The governor also said that soon a meeting with the CM and CS of Uttarakhand would be held on the proposed projects of strategic and economic importance for the state.
