BSP aiming to win next Assembly election in U’khand: Masood

Even though the Bahujan Samaj Party is struggling to maintain its existence in Uttarakhand, its State in-charge Imran Masood claimed that the party is working with the goal of winning the next Vidhan Sabha elections and forming its government in the State. The senior BSP leader said this after holding a meeting with party leaders and office bearers here on Saturday. Masood said, “We are working with the aim of forming the BSP government by winning the next Assembly elections. The BSP is believed to be like a factory which produces leaders so the departure of some leaders does not make any difference to the party. The party will perform well in the upcoming civic body elections and the Lok Sabha elections. We will achieve our goal and show that the mountains can be climbed by riding on the back of the elephant,” he said in a reference to the party’s symbol.
It is worth mentioning here that the BSP has not been able to establish its presence across the State since the creation of Uttarakhand in 2000. Its presence and supporters have remained limited largely to the plain districts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. The party also faced defeat in the Panchayat elections held earlier this year in the Haridwar district. Various leaders of the party have left the BSP and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. According to observers, this may affect the party’s position in the coming local body elections and the Lok Sabha elections.
