BSS warns of Badrinath bandh if demands not met within week

The Badrish Sangharsh Samiti has sought action on its various demands within a week, failing which it has warned of a bandh in Badrinath. Members of various groups including Teerth Purohits, Pandas, business fraternity and local residents held a general meeting on various issues in Badrinath on Tuesday. They also staged a demonstration when cabinet minister Satpal Maharaj was leaving after offering prayers in Badrinath temple. They submitted a memorandum to the minister in which they have sought action on various issues. They have demanded resolution within a week of cases pertaining to the buildings which have been demolished or will be demolished by the government and the executing company in Badrinath. Their other demands include keeping the height of buildings in Badrinath 12 metres under the master plan as in the past, according commercial status to all land of Badrinath as all families come here for business and employment, and ensuring resettlement of business establishments demolished. They have also demanded that pilgrims arriving by helicopter should not be considered VIP and that the VIP facility should be provided only on the basis of protocol. The locals of Badrinath should be allowed unrestricted entry in the temple, they said. The protesters warned that they will call a bandh in Badrinath if these issues are not resolved within a week.
