Budget session of U’khand Assembly starts today

The budget session of Uttarakhand Assembly will start in Dehradun on Tuesday. To decide the agenda of the house during the important session a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the house was convened on Monday. The meeting was chaired by the Assembly speaker Ritu Khanduri and was attended by the Finance and Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agarwal, leader of opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya and BSP leader Mohammad Shahzad.

In the meeting of the BAC, the agenda of the house for the first three days (June 14, 15 and 16 ) was discussed and decided. It included legislative works, presentation of the budget for the year 2022-23 and discussion on it. The BAC would again meet on June 16 to decide the next agenda of the house.

The speaker Khanduri said that everyone should cooperate for smooth functioning of the house and quality and concise discussions. She said that there was a positive discussion on the issues of public interest and development related subjects in the house. Khanduri said that she would provide equal opportunity to the members of the ruling party and opposition in the house. The speaker said that the democratic institutions should be strengthened to fulfil the expectations and the aspirations of the people.  In the meeting the speaker said that collective efforts should be made to maintain the dignity of the house and increase the level of the discussions. The speaker also visited the house and inspected the preparations for the session. She inquired about the sound system and ordered that cleanliness and sanitation should be maintained. Khanduri also ordered that the sanitizers should be kept at the entry gates and everyone should wear masks.

It is pertinent to mention here that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami who also is the leader of the house would enter the assembly with a renewed vigour after his landslide victory in the Champawat by elections. Apart from presenting the budget and discussions on it, the Dhami government is expected to table some important bills in the house. The opposition Congress is expected to raise the issues of unemployment, rising prices and corruption.
