Bowing to the demand of a group of MLAs, the State government has decided to hold the upcoming budget session of the State assembly in Dehradun. The chief secretary Radha Raturi said on Wednesday that based on the recommendations received from the Vidhan Sabha, a decision to convene a session in Dehradun was taken.
She said that the summer session of the assembly will be convened in Gairsain, the summer capital of the State. The decision of not organising the budget session in Gairsain in Chamoli district was taken after 36 MLAs requested the government that the budget session should be organised in Dehradun instead of Gairsain in Chamoli. This group of MLAs had members of both BJP and Congress and they cited extreme cold in Gairsain as the reason for shifting session from Gairsain to Dehradun.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the chief ministerial tenure of Harish Rawat, the State assembly had passed a resolution that the budget session will be held in Gairsain.
Governor prorogues the 2nd session of 2023 of State assembly
DEHRADUN: The governor lieutenant general ( Rtd) Gurmit Singh has prorogued the second session of the year 2023 of Uttarakhand assembly. This paves the way for the budget session of the state assembly which is likely to be held in the last week of February. The prorogued session was historic in the sense that the bill on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) was tabled, discussed and passed by the assembly during its term and Uttarakhand became the first state in the country after independence to pass the bill on UCC.
The bill granting 10 per cent horizontal reservation to the statehood activists was also passed in the session. This session was held in two parts, the first part in the month of September when the supplementary budget was passed and the other from February 5 to February 7 during which the UCC was passed. PNS
