While reviewing compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives regarding the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026, the district magistrate Prashant Arya directed that strict action be taken against those burning garbage in the open, imposing fines ranging from Rs 5,000 to 25,000 and ensuring necessary legal action.

He also directed all municipal bodies and gram panchayats to implement mandatory source segregation of waste and register bulk waste generators, establish Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), and set targets for the prompt disposal of old waste and take timely action.

Further, he said that local bodies and gram panchayats doing excellent work in waste management and sanitation systems would be honoured, while strict action would be taken against bodies and panchayats not working as per the set targets.
