Bus passengers, couple have a lucky escape in Ramnagar

Twenty persons had a lucky escape when a roadways bus ended up on its side near Pirumdara area on the Ramnagar national highway while trying to avoid a car. The bus was carrying 18 passengers who sustained minor injuries in the mishap. All passengers were later sent to their destinations in another bus. However, the couple in the car was injured and taken to Ramnagar hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred late on Thursday night when Athar, a resident of Khatari, along with his wife Mehtab, was travelling from Kashipur to Ramnagar. Near Pirumdara, a bus heading towards Dehradun approached from the opposite direction. In an attempt to avoid a collision with the car, the bus driver swerved sharply, losing control of the vehicle which fell on its side. Meanwhile, the car collided with an electricity pole.
The crash led to panic among the bus passengers. The front windshield of the bus was shattered and the passengers managed to exit through it. Pirumdara police post in-charge Sunil Dhanik stated that police reached the scene upon receiving information about the mishap. The bus passengers were sent to their destination in another vehicle, while the injured couple was rescued from the car and admitted to Ramnagar hospital.
