The Congress has said that the decision of Pushkar Singh Dhami cabinet to endorse the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) regulations is a blatant violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) enforced in the State in the view of the urban local bodies elections.
Congress Working Committee ( CWC) member Gurdip Singh Satpal said that the Congress will register a complaint with the State Election Commission (SEC) in this regard. He said that the BJP leaders are alarmed by the ground reports on the ULB elections and the cabinet decision on UCC on Monday is a poor attempt by the party to divert the attention of the people from the real issues.
Former cabinet ninister Harak Singh Rawat said that on February 22, 2022, the Union government had submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court that the State governments should not enact any law on the UCC. He said that the decision of the Dhami cabinet on UCC on Monday is not only a violation of the MCC but also a contempt of the apex court.
