Cancer awareness programme held at Army cantonment

A two-day awareness programme organized to commemorate the ‘World Cancer Day’ by Military Hospital, Military Dental Corps and Station Health Organization (SHO) Dehradun ended on Wednesday. The programme was held under the auspices of headquarters Uttarakhand sub area.
In the programme, Commanding Officer of SHO Dehradun Colonel Alok Gupta informed about various types of cancer, focusing on prevention methods and the importance of spreading awareness. He emphasized the significance of early detection in enhancing treatment outcomes.
The programme also featured a presentation by Lieutenant Suman Singh, who specifically addressed women’s health, shedding light on cancers such as cervical cancer, breast cancer, and oral cancer. She discussed the risk factors, symptoms, and preventive measures, stressing that a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition, and regular screenings can help detect these cancers early, improving treatment prospects.
Dr Joyita Banerjee and Senior Registrar Colonel J M Jayaprakash were the chief guests for the occasion. The programme was attended by five officers, 27 Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), 208 soldiers and 138 women. A health exhibition was also organized in the programme and prizes were distributed to participants as part of the initiative to raise awareness. “The event concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting cancer awareness and encouraging regular health screenings as part of maintaining overall well-being,’’ a communique from the Army said.
