The Haridwar police have registered a case against unknown people after the photo and video of immersion of a Ganesh idol in the Ganga river went viral.  On Tuesday night, Ganesh idols were immersed in Ganga and Gangnahar at more than 10 places in the city.  Police are preparing to register cases against other people by checking the CCTV installed at Har Ki Paidi and other ghats.

The video of Ganesh idol immersion in Ganga on Tuesday evening went viral on social media on Wednesday.  District magistrate Vinay Shankar Pandey took cognizance of the viral video and ordered the police to register a case.

Devotees are immersing the idols of Ganapati in the Ganga and Gangnahar itself, instead of alternate pools made for idol immersion.  Due to the increasing pollution in the Ganga, the DM had banned idol immersion in the Ganga and its tributaries.

The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar has made pools near Bairagi Camp L Point, Sati Ghat and Dhobighat for this purpose.  However, people are immersing the idols in the Ganga and Gangnahar.

Apart from Har Ki Paidi, idol immersion is being done at Premnagar Ashram Ghat, Vishwakarma Ghat, Rishikul,Vishnu Ghat and Kankhal Raj Ghat.

Police circle officer of Haridwar city, Manoj Kumar Thakur informed that an FIR has been lodged on unidentified group of persons as per directions of the sub divisional magsitsrate for immersion of Ganesh idol in Ganga.
