CBCID proceeds with arrests and property seizures in multi-crore LUCC case

The Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID) unit of Dehradun is continuing its investigation into the Loni Urban Multi State Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society Ltd (LUCC) case worth crores of Rupees, with legal action underway in various districts of Uttarakhand.

A total of eight cases have been registered against LUCC in the districts of Dehradun, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Tehri and Rudraprayag, as per the officials. They informed that the accused allegedly collected money from the public through various inducements and later misappropriated the funds. They said that in one of the cases, six accused individuals have been arrested and sent to jail. A charge sheet has been submitted to the court and further investigation is being conducted by the CBCID unit in Dehradun. Verification of the accused individuals’ properties has been completed and reports have been sent to the Dehradun and Tehri DMs along with the assistant regional transport officer of Tehri to prevent the sale or transfer of these assets.

The officials said that further communication has been initiated with the commissioners of Garhwal and Kumaon divisions to gather details of other properties owned by the accused. Once the information is received, legal proceedings will be undertaken to seize or auction these assets. They informed that the lookout circulars and blue corner notices have been issued against the accused. Correspondence has also been made with the central registrar of Cooperative Societies in New Delhi and the registrar of Cooperative Societies in Uttarakhand to obtain registration details of LUCC and to involve affected investors from Uttarakhand in the liquidation process.

The authorities have contacted the passport office to obtain information related to the passports and other documents of the accused. They further informed that relevant documents have been shared with the Income Tax department and the Enforcement Directorate to support legal proceedings. The respective district police are also continuing legal action in all registered cases related to LUCC, they added.
