CBI arrests CGST superintendent for accepting bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a superintendent of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Rudrapur division of Udham Singh Nagar while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 on Tuesday. The officials informed that the CBI registered a case on a complaint against the accused. The complainant alleged in the complaint that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 from him for activation of the suspended GSTIN of his wife’s firm. GSTIN is the number that identifies a GST registered business and is used for various GST related procedures such as filing returns and other tasks. The accused allegedly reduced the bribe amount to Rs 10,000, as per the officials. They informed that the CBI team laid a trap and caught the accused red handed in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 on Tuesday. Besides this, the CBI team also conducted multiple searches at the properties of the accused in Rudrapur and Haryana’s Ambala. The team recovered several documents, two lockers, bank accounts and certain incriminating documents among other things. The officials said that the CBI is investigating the background of the accused related to his illegal activities and will take further action accordingly.
