CBI nabs LIC official for taking bribe in Doon

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team arrested an assistant executive engineer (Electrical) of the Life Insurance Corporation of India Limited (LIC) red-handed while taking a Rs 15,000 bribe. The CBI team arrested the accused Bhagvati Prasad when he was accepting Rs 15,000, which was the first installation of the Rs 40,000 bribe sought from the complainant.

According to officials, the CBI had received a complaint and had lodged a case on its basis. It was alleged by the complainant that the accused had sought Rs 57,000 bribe as commission on payment for his pending bills and earlier clearances. The complainant repeatedly requested the accused and managed to bring the amount sought as bribe down to Rs 40,000. The CBI team laid its trap and deployed its personnel around the LIC divisional office on Haridwar Road. The accused official was caught in the act of accepting the bribe. According to official sources, the residence of the accused was also checked. The arrested accused will be presented in the court of the special CBI judge on Wednesday. Further investigation in the case is underway, the officials said.
