Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Lansdowne, Dilip Rawat has demanded that a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry should be ordered into the alleged irregularities of the Labour department and Uttarakhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board during the period of 2017 to 2021.  Former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat headed the department and the board during the aforementioned period.

In a letter directed to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the BJP MLA said the sewing machines, lights, cycles and other equipment were purchased for the construction workers by the board during the period.  Financial help was also given for marriage of daughters of labourers. The BJP MLA said complaints of gross irregularities in distribution of the material and grants were received and norms were flayed in the process. He alleged that many so called NGOs were given grants by the board in gross violation of the norms. When contacted by The Pioneer, Dilip Rawat acknowledged that he had written the letter as the deeds of the board meant for the welfare of workers had affected the image of the then BJP government. He said that a CBI probe should be ordered on the issue.

The demand for a CBI probe on the activities of the board and labour department could invite trouble for the former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat who had left BJP and joined Congress just ahead of assembly elections in the state. In the elections, the Congress party had fielded Anukriti Gusain, the daughter in-law of Harak Singh Rawat from Lansdowne assembly against Dilip Singh Rawat of BJP. In the elections Rawat had defeated Gusain.
