Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat who is admitted in the Himalayan Hospital at Jolly Grant was served a notice by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the infamous sting CD case of 2016. The officers of the CBI met Rawat in the hospital on Friday and handed over the notice in which he was summoned to the local office of CBI for recording his voice sample.

After the CBI sleuths left the hospital Rawat posted their pictures serving the notice on social media. “Today a very important institution came to inquire about my health in the hospital. The friends from CBI came and served me a notice. I was surprised. When people are coming to the hospital to inquire about my health, the CBI must have found me dangerous for the integrity, security, unity of the country and democracy so they served notice to me in the hospital. Well done CBI,’’ Rawat said.

In the sting CD case the CBI has also served notices to former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat, Congress MLA Madan Bisht and independent MLA Umesh Kumar.

On March 18, 2016 nine Congress MLAs led by former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna and the then cabinet minister  Harak Singh Rawat switched sides in the State Assembly during the budget session and supported BJP. Later on March 26 amid political uncertainty in the State, a video was released which purportedly showed Harish Rawat allegedly offering money to the rebels for shifting back their loyalty to the Congress party.
