Census-2027: Trial to begin on July 6 in Haridwar

After the completion of the process of house census on May 24, the State administration has started gearing up for the second phase of the Census -2027 which is commencing from February 9, 2027. However, to check its preparations, the administration will conduct a trial run of the main census operation in Haridwar district from July 6 to 18. The secretary, Census, Programme Implementation and Sanskrit Education Deepak Kumar told The Pioneer that the trial will be conducted in ward number 10 and 12 of Haridwar city. He said that the training has been imparted to the enumerators and supervisors for the test phase.
Kumar added that during the test phase, the enumerators will visit every household for data collection and on July 19 and 20 revision rounds of the exercise will be held. The trial of self-enumeration of the Census will also be conducted during July 1 to 5.
Apart from real-time testing of the census operation, the trial will also test the Census software and help in assessing the public response.
Pertinently, the first phase of the Census commenced in Uttarakhand on April 25 and ended on May 24. During this period the enumerators visited every house and building to collect data on amenities and assets through 33 specific questions. During this phase the entire State was divided into 29,567 House Listing Blocks (HLBs) and digital maps were prepared for each HLB. Notably for the first time in India’s history, the Census is being conducted through a completely mobile app-based digital system.
