The Central government has slashed the price of the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for household use by Rs 200 across the country as a gift to the people on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan festival. This decision to give some relief to the common people being impacted by the spiking inflation was taken in course of the meeting of the Union ministers chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  In addition, for the Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, the price drop for the LPG cylinders is Rs 400 as they have already been receiving subsidy to the tune of Rs 200 per cylinder. As per the data, the number of LPG consumers across the country is about 31 crore, including 9.6 crore beneficiaries of the PM Ujjwala Yojana.  It is now being expected that this LPG price slash would be followed by similar slash in the prices of petrol and diesel.
