Centre approves elevated road project in Srinagar

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the ambitious plan to construct an elevated road in Srinagar. The road will be constructed from Panch Peepal to Sveet in Srinagar. The proposal was approved by the ministry in a high level meeting chaired by Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday. The Education, Health and Cooperatives minister Dhan Singh Rawat, who also represents Srinagar Assembly constituency attended the meeting.
Rawat said that in depth discussions were held in the meeting of the high level committee on the construction of elevated road in Srinagar. He said that Gadkari took a final decision on the road project and directed the officers to prepare a detailed project report of the project and start the construction work. Rawat said that the 7.5 kilometres elevated road will be constructed from Panch Peepal to Sveet along the Alaknanda river. The connectivity of the elevated road will be done from the railway station and Srinagar market. NIT Srinagar, SSB training centre, HNB Garhwal Central University and ITI will also get connected with this road.
Rawat said that the road will help in reducing the traffic load in Srinagar city. It will also provide relief from the traffic jams to the Char Dham pilgrims. He said that the construction of the elevated road will also be important from the tourism and strategic points of views.
Rawat expressed gratitude to Gadkari for approving the project and invited him to visit the State for Char Dham Yatra and darshan of Dhari Devi.
