Centre gives clearance to Rs 547 Cr project to underground cables in Rishikesh

 The Union government has given financial approval of Rs 547.73 crore for undergrounding work of HT and LT electricity cables and introduction of SCADA automation under the revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS) scheme in the Ganga corridor area of Rishikesh in Dehradun district. The approval was given by the Power Finance Corporation Limited  and the work will be done by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL).  

Under the project the HT/ LT electricity cables in many important areas of Rishikesh will be laid underground. The supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) automation system will also be introduced in Rishikesh which will help in transparency and monitoring of the electricity supplies and will develop capacity of immediate improvement in the supplies.

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had requested the Union government to give its approval for these projects.

Expressing happiness at the development, CM expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union minister of Power Manohar Lal Khattar for giving approval for the ambitious project.

He said that the project will not only strengthen the power distribution system in a place like Rishikesh which is important for spiritual and tourism point of views and is part of Kumbh area. The CM added that the project will play an important role in beautification of the city and its security and environmental balance. He added that the State government will work with full dedication to ensure that the project is completed in a time bound manner so that continuous, safe and quality power supply is ensured for the people of the State.
