Centre sanctions Rs 1,200 crore for education infrastructure in U’khand

 The Project Approval Board (PAB) of the union education ministry has sanctioned a sum of Rs 1,200 crore under Samagra Shiksha for conduction of educational activities and strengthening the educational infrastructure in Uttarakhand. Under the plan a sum of Rs 1,135 crore has been allotted for different activities under the Samagra Shiksha and Rs 63.9 crore for PM Shri Schools. 

The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that a team of the State education department headed by Secretary Ravinath Raman and Project Director Samagra Shiksha Banshidhar Tiwari put up the proposal of the State in the meeting of PAB on Friday. The board approved the proposal and sanctioned a sum of Rs 1,200 crore for the State. The minister informed that six residential hostels after Neta Subash Chandra Bose will be constructed in the State in Halduchaur Haldwani, Ramnagar (Nainital), Kotdwar (Pauri) and Mori in Uttarkashi. Two such hostels will be constructed in Dehradun district. He said that funds for the construction of an already sanctioned hostel in Rishikesh will also be released by the department.

 Rawat said that school band will be provided in 141 PM Shri schools in the State and free sanitary pads will be given to 2.75 lakh girl students from classes VI to XII in the government schools of the state.

He further informed that an upper primary school will be opened in Batgua of Chamoli and a high school will come up in Ajmalpur, Haridwar. Similarly the high school of Kutkhal in Thallisain block of Pauri will be upgraded.  Rawat said that the fund will be used for construction of new school buildings of 110 primary and UPS schools in the State. These schools presently function in dilapidated buildings. Similarly 250 school buildings will be repaired. The approved budget will be used for construction of boundaries in 75 schools, toilets in 187 schools, laboratories in 82 intermediate schools, additional classrooms in 107 schools, computer rooms in 34 schools and libraries in 30 schools. Apart from this virtual laboratory in 840 schools and smart classes in 1,124 schools will be constructed.
