CEO directs officials to arrange protection from weather for voters and personnel

The State’s chief electoral officer BVRC Purushottam has directed the officials to make necessary arrangements for personnel and voters on the polling day in case of inclement weather or warm conditions. Chairing a meeting with officials of the departments concerned on Tuesday, Purushottam said that the Election Commission of India has issued instructions for protection from heat wave like conditions forecast in March and June.

Addressing the officials, the CEO said that considering the geographical aspects of the State and polling in the first phase of the Lok Sabha election, the Urban Development department, Jal Sansthan and all other departments should make necessary arrangements especially in the plains for protection against the heat wave forecast. The necessary arrangements for protection from the heat should be made especially in the three plain districts of the State- Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar.He directed officials to ensure that arrangements for sheds, water, cooler, fans and other facilities are ensured at polling centres in these areas. Purushottam said that considering the State’s geography and the weather forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department, the officials should ensure that personnel on election duty in the mountainous districts have warm clothing along with property bedding for the night.

He instructed the Health director general to arrange for Doli and other arrangements needed to transport pregnant women to the polling booth in order to increase the voter turnout in the State. To further boost the voter turnout, the CEO directed officials to ensure effective awareness programmes and to consistently follow the social media pages/handles of the ECI and Uttarakhand CEO.
