Amid concern and outcry generated due to issuance of notices to a large number of people under the ongoing process of second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Uttarakhand, the chief electoral officer (CEO) of the State BVRC Purushottam too has received a notice from the Election Commission of India. It is learnt that the Purushottam who is spearheading the enormous task of SIR of the electoral rolls in the State has submitted required documents to the Booth Level Officer (BLO) of his locality. The CEO is learnt to have received notice for name related anomaly.
In an appeal to the people of the State, the CEO said that receipt of notices to the voters due to name and other anomalies is a normal process. He said that the anomaly can be corrected by submitting the required document to the BLO concerned.
Purushottam said that clear instructions have been given to the districts that in the BLOs should dispose off the notices of general anomalies so that the people don’t have to face any inconvenience. He said that the officers should focus especially on the voters who have not been mapped and action as per the rules should be taken after holding hearing at the level of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) and Assistant ERO concerned.
In the ongoing process of the ECI has included the names of 71,33,785 voters in the draft electoral roll and out of the commission has issued notices to about 24 lakh voters following detection of different types of anomalies. The commission has given a list of 11 documents which include certificates and identity cards issued by government, certificates of education, land ownership documents, family register and others which the voters can submit against the notices served to them.
