Champion writes from jail to defer Gujjar Mahapanchayat

The former Khanpur MLA Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ has issued a letter from jail urging that the Veer Gujjar Samaj Mahapanchayat scheduled on Wednesday be postponed. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader who was sent to 14 days in judicial custody by the court for firing at the current Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar’s camp office, issued the letter after members of the Gujjar community decided to congregate and vent their views on the issue.
On the other hand, supporters of Kumar also gathered on Tuesday to deliberate on the issue, which initially began as a spat on social media and escalated within a couple of days, culminating on Sunday with Singh and his supporters firing rounds at Kumar’s premises. Both Singh and Kumar were arrested and the court sent Singh to jail while Kumar was granted bail.
In his letter, Singh has stated that the Mahapanchayat of the Gujjars should be postponed as the 38th National Games are currently underway in Uttarakhand. His wife Devyani Singh informed about this in a video in which she is reading the letter. She said that her husband had stated that the Uttarakhand government is hosting the National Games, which is a matter of pride for the State.
The Mahapanchayat should be deferred for now considering this important event. It will be recalled that the Gujjar community had decided to hold a Mahapanchayat after Singh’s arrest. On the other hand, Kumar stated on social media that he had never said anything against the Gujjar or any other community.
